ice

Got a little cold this week so the pond froze over. The cows have an automatic waterer so it doesn't matter a lot. The dogs and I walk through the cows every morning and they like to go to the pond so we usually go. We got down there and I saw a cow had a newborn baby and it was stuck on the ice. The cow was very cranky about it. The ice wasn't too thick so I was concerned about falling through. There was no chance of drowning but I didn't want to have to walk home wet and muddy. So I laid down on the ice and slid as far as I dared, when the calf kicked I grabbed a foot and jerked it to me. We got off the ice and the cow became a major problem. I needed a stick but it wouldn't have mattered because it took both hands to get the calf up the bank. She brushed me once but I got the calf laying correctly. I walked home to get the ATV, that way if I had to do anything else I would have something to get behind.By the time I got back it was up and nursing, later I saw it laying in some hay by a feeder. Buzzie watched the whole thing about 50 feet away, he was too scared to move. The other 2 dogs felt I got myself into this, I could get myself out. Nice backup.

cats

We got the thing with Josanna/Lee sorted out. It's been cold this week and I noticed there were 4 black cats in the house. Well they're on their own. I don't know who the fourth one is and I guess I don't care. It's an older cat so there are a lot of possibilities. There's a gray cat that seems to be friends with Lee. They both are in good condition so I'm sure they were dumped. Wendy had problems making friends but they all like Lee.

Josanna

Since it got cold Josanna has been coming in the house. Actually not leaving the house. we'd seen her on the porch playing with Lucy but just recently came in. I told Paula if she stayed I was going to take her in for her shots, it'd been awhile because we couldn't catch her. Dr. Dave was pushing and prodding like he does and he said look at this. turns out I had a boy. Obviously not Josanna. Josanna would be 5, this cat is about 1 year old. I left her there, might as well get him fixed. Now we're looking for another name. I told them I'd have one by tomorrow so just call him anonymous.
