new feeder

Went out to feed tonight and Tyler shot out with us. Usually they stop but he kept going. He did a lot of howling but got all the way. He was inside when I brought Cass. Tyler panicked and ran behind some tools. I thought we'd have to pull him out but once Cass was in her spot he ran out. After we got done we found him hiding in the weeds. Paula picked him up and he rode about halfway back before he wanted down. I don't think he was afraid, he just liked the idea of playing while he had protection. Paula picked him back up and they squirmed into the house.

dogs

Paula is in Wichita for a couple days. The big dogs don't mind, one less just means more for them. Buzzie minds. Having dad isn't enough he needs mom and dad. I hope he sleeps better tonight. I think today might have been the hottest yet. The wind quit in the afternoon and it got bad. When I fed the horses they were all wet and muddy. Hero, the horse who supposedly doesn't like to get wet, was brown. They all were, it showed more on him. I'm glad they had the pond to play in, plus no one lost a shoe.

siete

When Megan rode Siete the other night Megan thought Siete was sore but she couldn't tell where. I've asked Paula lots of times if she thought Siete was limping but finally decided since she wasn't getting worse she must be ok. Yesterday I took her to Dr. Thouvenelle so he could look. He watched her and then we took an x-ray of her front right foot. There was an area that wasn't quite right and at that point I was getting a little concerned. Dr. Thouvenelle said that she had flat feet and they were trimmed to the wrong angle. We're going to get the farrier up there where he can look at the x-rays, trim her different and make it easier for her to walk. She's always flopped her feet out like she had on clown shoes but I guess I thought that was just her. She's had a growth on her eye for a few years so we lasered that off. She'll have to spend the next few days inside.

storm

We had a big storm last night. Actually we were at a barrel race south of Great Band and missed a lot of it. When we went down there not much was on the radar but it came up fast. We thought about leaving but Megan was going to ride Siete and I wasn't leaving until then. After she got done we loaded right away. We stopped to get gas and met a couple people there. We thought about getting home as fast as possible but decided to go to Burger King. By the time we got home the worst was over. It rained and blew all night but nothing else. When we got home our lights were out and didn't come on till this afternoon. There were supposed to be tornadoes but I don't think any touched ground. There was a huge area that got hailed really hard but we didn't get any. When I parked the trailer there was water everywhere. Siete didn't want to get out and it took some work to get her to step out into the water. Then at night there was a tremendous noise we couldn't figure out what it was. Turned out it was an airplane that many people heard. Paula said they were talking about it in Hoisington. Some people went out and saw it in the lightning.

water

The horses have been playing in the pond a lot. I don't blame them. They come home all splattered. Siete has clips on her shoes so she can splash and hopefully not lose a shoe. Tonight it started thundering but we didn't expect anything. It rained right away. I don't think we got a lot but it's the first in a long time. Then I started running water in the tub. One of the black kittens jumped in. It was straight up and down the side. It's front feet on the bottom it's back feet straight up. I laughed at it for a little while and then lifted it out. It sat on the side and groomed itself.
