riding

Got Siete out tonight. It's been so windy I hadn't been on her for awhile. It was still windy but I'm only waiting so long. So I get Siete out and immediately the dogs came roaring by and caught something. At first I thought it was a cat since it was so close. I yelled at them and the big dogs left. It was a rabbit and Buzzie had it. Grandma took it away and said it might die but not in front of her. I was ok with that since I didn't want the dogs fighting over the rabbit underneath Siete and me. Grandma hid it in the barn. After I got done riding we fed the horses and put them up. On the way to the house Buzzie detoured into the barn and grandma had to go in and drag him out. He remembers well.

cooler

Even though it got hot today on general it's cooler. The evenings are much nicer. This morning everything was feeling frisky. Buzzie went out in the wheat stubble and started running in circles. He does that when he's really frisky and happy. Then he came out in the driveway and kept running circles. Not everyone likes that as well since he crashes into anything in his way. That means he runs into my legs, smacks into the big dogs and jumps on Juan. Claire saw a crippled pigeon and halfheartedly chased it. Buzzie saw it and it was off to the races. He caught it and it looked like a pillow blew up. The pigeon was crippled so it would have died anyway. I was going to put Buzz in the house and go get some bales but I didn't, knowing it would be hard to get him in now. When I drove by he looked up.He was totally covered in feathers and you could barely tell there was a dog underneath. When I got back he was ready to go in the house.

heat

The heat has been unbelievable. For the last few weeks the only horse I've ridden has been Siete. Paula will come out with me and my original idea was we would take Siete and another horse out. It hasn't worked out though. T0day was nice so I suggested Paula should take a horse out with us. She didn't want to but I kept at it and eventually she gave in. She took Hero and at first neither horse wanted to go. Once Siete got in the mood she really went. That's how she is, she really goes once she gets started. Poor Hero couldn't keep up. We were about back and I saw Juan in stubble. I went around him. Leilani always wants to chase the dogs and cats and I didn't feel like it today. We got back and I saw Juan still way out in the field. He wasn't alone. Buzzie was with him. Neither one of us knew Buzzie was out there. After all he's not very big. The 2 of them bounced around together for awhile and then came back. At least Juan shouldn't lead him as far out as the big dogs.

Cassy

I was going out this evening to get Siete. They were down by the pond but Cass was halfway home. She saw me and came running. I told her hi but I was after Siete. Cass was stunned. She came after me and bumped my rope with her head. What more can a horse say? It was hot windy and storms were in the air and I think she is cycling but once we got going it went well. Siete didn't flex very well but once we got past that she did good. We practiced in the round pen and then went outside and rode around the yard for awhile. I forgot back in the round pen so we did it in the driveway. Siete will back with a halter but the snaffle is a different feel. So I have Paula stand in front and when I put pressure on Paula moves her back. Tonight she had her best steps so far. When we were feeding I've been having Leilani time her steps to mine. It's part of me having her always learning something. Yesterday was terrible. Today she went step for step. It's tough going out on nights like this but when it works out it makes it all worthwhile.
