hot

Got the horses out last night after I thought it had cooled off. It hadn't. Leilani was soaking wet just standing there. We got Cass and Hero. They weren't as wet but still hot. The humidity must have been incredible plus there was no wind. I went on at some length about how the heat bothers me and that Paula should saddle both while I rested but she wasn't listening. It wasn't too bad riding but we didn't go too long anyway. I didn't want to melt Hero down to Midget size.haha Usually we leave them saddled and tied for awhile but we unsaddled and gave them a bath. We put them back and they both rolled in the dust making themselves muddy. Hero hates getting muddy but Tami said he's never figured out that rolling in dust while wet makes mud. And I don't want any of you telling him because he enjoys it.

gate

There's a gate that's really been bothering us when we work cows so I got it out today. The weeds were incredible so I had to blade them down first. I thought the dogs would be interested but they seemed a little nervous. I hooked onto the gate and it came loose. There were a lot of sticks that came with it. They were tied in by Ray to fill holes so the cows couldn't go out. She might not like me tearing them up. But I consider her 80% responsible for forgetting anniversary so it should even out. When I went to measure Buzz wouldn't even go in. They must have thought something was in there. In the afternoon when I worked on the new gate the dogs didn't even bother to come out. Buzz walked out once took a quick look and went back in. It wasn't even that hot.

leak

The water district had a leak by our mailbox. They came to fix it today. It was a soggy mess. I heard them drive up and let the dogs out. I couldn't see anyone but I could hear Rich yell hello guys. A lot of the backhoe work was bailing out the slop. There was a big pile of slop and they stopped to see if they could find the pipe. Everyone looked, including Buzz. The big dogs got their feet wet and could see. Buzz got all muddy and sloppy halfway up the side if his tummy.Rich told him to be careful not to fall in. I said don't worry if he falls in I'll fish him out. He didn't fall in but he was black. The big girls ran around and cleaned right up. It took a lit longer for Buzz to get clean

ankle

Leikani has had some soreness lately lately. Early on I gave her some bute and that seemed to clear it up. But it just never got completely better.Tami came out Friday and rode her. She said I'd better take her to Wichita. We went today. It was cold and wet much of the time. The horses were way out by the blacktop and I got soaked getting them. Leilani walked good until we turned for home and got on the mud. Then she started limping. Dr. John watched her walk for awhile and we went inside. He moved her leg around and the area right above her hoof, I guess her ankle, was a little sore. He took some x-rays and they showed a bone chip. I really didn't want to see that. Dr. John and Tami both told me she would be alright but it's hard for me to see any positives. We'll take her back in 2 weeks and she''l get an injection of hyuronic acid. That's a type of glucosimine. They both think it will work but I can't help but think that this is an herbal thing and Paula says they don't work. I took some glucosimine for my wrist once and it didn't work. Paula always used that for an example of how they won't work. So that's bothering me now. After the injection she'll get special shoes, a wedge shoe to correct her leg angle. She might have to wear them forever.

barking

When we were supping the horses the dogs started on another barking spree. They were under the old feeding floor. Buzz was way back by the horse barn. When he saw us coming he started running as hard as he could toward the girls. Then he realized we weren't there yet. So he ran back as hard as he could. It was quite a ways, probably 100 feet. At first we were thinking skunk but when we got closer we could hear growling, probably coyote or cat. Buzz came tearing back, this time he went into the weeds. We yelled at the dogs and the girls came out. Paula had to go back and drag Buzzy out. He's a little braver when Mommy and Daddy are close. This morning Tami came out to do horse feet. When I went to get the horses they were all the way out by the blacktop. Buzz went the whole way. He followed close the last half but on the way home he took the lead. I watched closely because he was with Lucy and she cannot be trusted to watch after her little brother.

birthday

We just missed my birthday. I've changed it to July 20. When my ribs hurt I definitely lost 2 months to nothing and I'm claiming a 3rd month due to aggravation. So I'm throwing away those months and moving on. Took some hay to Tami. Buzz went with Claire and me. Tami's grandma is out of town so Tami has her dog. His name is Virgil. Virgil is I think a Boston Terrier. Not very big, maybe 20 pounds. Buzz jumped out of the pickup and Virgil wanted to play. Buzz the sissy took off running. Virgil's idea of playing was to run over Buzz. Kind of like Buzz does himself. Except now Buzzy is afraid. He ran back into the pickup and Virgil followed him in. They ran all over the place. When I was ready to leave Virgil popped right in and wouldn't leave. Tami had to get him. Buzzy was wore out.
