swimming

Went out to do the horses. It was still warm. Juan followed us all the way out. Everyone got hot so we stopped by the pond. I didn't see Claire but Lucy swam out and laid in the water. Buzzie waded in and came out. Claire was on the other side and saw us so she swam over. Buzzie wasn't going in so Paula tossed him in a little. That just barely got him wet so I told Paula to throw him a little farther. She did and he went completely under. Guess it gets deep in a hurry. He didn't panic but he swam right out. Juan was laying and watching and Buzzie went by and got him all wet. Then Lucy dripped on him. Then Claire shook on him. I don't think Juan intended to get wet but he did. On the way home everyone got hot again. I think cats don't get as hot because they don't go all over the place, they walk straight lines.

frisky

Even though it got hot later in the day early this morning all the animals were frisky. Buzzie chased a black up a tree and then sat and stared until it came down so he could chase it again. Sue came out. She seldom leaves the house. Buzzie saw her and started chasing her. The backdoor was open a crack and she went back in. Buzzie would have followed her in but she turned around and started pounding him in the head through the crack. It was different this evening. Lucy didn't even go out to do the horses. Buzzie just followed Paula and never left her track. Claire ran around a little and then sat and watched.

hot

Got warm today. I took Claire and we sprayed thistles up at Lucas. We went in the morning but it was still a little stuffy. Claire is very aware of where the ponds are. I wouldn't see her for awhile and then I'd see her wet. We have 2 and there's one on the north and one on the east and I think she used them all. When we were ready to leave we went to the north pond and I watched as she swam circles in the pond. She's very good. When we got back to the pickup I started it so she could sit in the air conditioning while I loaded. This evening when we went out to dope the horses the wind quit and it got even hotter. I tried to get Buzzie to swim but he waded and that was it. Claire swam circles and Lucy laid in the water while we tried to get him in.

action

Maggie was having trouble with her horse Montana so Tami told her she'd ride him to see what was going on. When we got to the barrel race Tami was sitting on Montana and he was calm but soaked. I asked what happened. She said she lunged him before she got on and he went crazy. While he was bucking and jumping around he knocked Tami flat on the ground. She got up and by the time we got there he was standing still. Even so the look on his face was not pleasant.Tami took him out on an exhibition. They had a lot of trouble at the first barrel. He wouldn't go around it and Tami wouldn't let him quit. They finally got around and the next 2 barrels went better. When they turned to run for home Montana started bucking. Not Leilani's sleepy crow hopping but NFR bucking. Tami almost came out there was a lot of air showing. She got control and started circling hard. After awhile they took off again and he started bucking again. This time she was ready and immediately started pulling him in a circle. They worked hard and he finally ran out of the arena. He was so stressed physically and mentally that sweat was pouring off of him. I feel safe in saying Maggie will never ride him again.

swimming

Went down to the pasture tonight to give the horses their stuff. They were at the pond and by the time we got there Buzzie was really panting. He doesn't take a very direct route. Claire was ahead and I could see she was already wet. I dosed the horses and walked over to the pond. I tried to get Buzzie to go in but we wouldn't. Lucy hadn't gone in either so I called her over. Of course when I called her Claire also came. It was a race for them to see who could jump in first and they blew by Buzzie like he was standing still. Well he was standing still. Buzzie got caught up in the moment and followed them in. He swam out about 5 or 6 feet and circled around a little. That was the first time he had ever swam out on his own without being thrown in or encouraged somehow and it was by far the biggest water he had ever been in. Then he came out and shook just like the big dogs. If he insists on chasing rabbits he's going to need a lot of swimtime.

buzzing

Tami came out today to do horse feet. We did little Midge and let her go. She took off running and we went ouot to play with the other horses. We went down west to do Sammy and Chloie. Claire had already gotten into her pickup but after much discussion we decided she couldn't go due to possible wetness. So we took Buzzie because I didn't want to take him back to the house. He rode down but when we all got out to do the horses he spent the whole time hiding under the pickup. He didn't even come over to eat the trimmings. He's like a typical little brother, fight all the time with his sisters but without them he was scared. So this evening when we came in Buzz went nuts. He started beating up one one Paula's shoes. Then he started tearing around the coffee table. He was going so fast when he came off the carpet he slid sideways into the couch. After a few rounds he grabbed a magazine and totally shredded it. Then he laid down and has slept the rest of the night. Big day.
