pointing

Buzzie has been pointing grasshoppers. He locks up on them just like a pointing dog. It's hard to see what he's looking at but he sees something. Occasionally he'll go after crickets but not a lot. I don't think he likes dark meat. He likes green meat.

How do you keep Buzzie busy?

Turn him loose on hoppers. He's a hopper hunting machine.

swimming

Took a bale feeder up to Lucas and had all 3 dogs. I was checking the boards on the loading chute and they all came over to see me and they were all wet. They were kind of warm so before we left we went over to one of the backup ponds. It doesn't usually have water but this year everything does. Lucy walked right in. One step and she went down and was swimming. She and Claire swam around awhile. Buzzie played in the water on the edge. I haven't had much luck getting him to swim without being helped. He's not afraid of water though. When we have puddles in the yard he'll walk out in them, lay down and drink. The big dogs got out and went the other way. Buzzie watched them and edged closer to the water and then just took off. He swam all over. While he swam his ears floated out to the side and never sank. He wagged his tail for awhile but then it got waterlogged and sank. I think he didn't want to get in while the big dogs were there because he thought they would try to drown him. He was probably right.

walking

Went to get the horses. Nobody was around so I had to walk out. They were way out there. Ben went with me. He never goes anywhere too far. His biggest problem is mud. There's a terrace that has to be crossed to get into the pasture and it took him a lot of thinking to cross the mud. In the pasture he followed exactly behind me. Sort of like Buzzie. The horses saw me and came running. It doesn't bother Ben a bit too have a horse roar past him. Got Leilani and Cassy and took off. Today Buzzie went. It's muddy so we didn't go too far in the field. Came down the driveway to the road and Buzzie was bouncing along behind. I really checked for traffic since no one could possibly see him. The horses don't seem to see him much since I'm always steering around him. Tied the horses up and went in the house to check my e-mail. I heard something behind me but didn't look. When I sat down I saw that Ben had followed me to the computer. The dogs couldn't stand that so they ran him right out.
