ride

Got on Leilani for the first time since December. When I first got on she did something but I don't know what. I'm sure it wasn't a buck but I don't know what she was thinking. At that point I was thinking that maybe after all this time I should have warmed her up on the ground but oh well. But she immediately looked to see what I wanted and we were off. She hadn't forgotten a thing. She did everything she had ever done. They say if a horse knows something they never forget. We were getting into the pickup this morning. Buzz was running full speed, like always. There was a big puddle in front of him. He gave a huge leap. He landed in the middle and never broke stride in his run. That was probably the only water he tried to jump. The rest he just went through.

I was looking for pictures of Leilani's foot when she had her boot on. I mean that metal thing. I can't find any. If anybody has some send them. I was going to print some and I need them fairly soon. Took mineral to the cows. There are frogs all over the pond. Buzz was chasing them. Frog slime doesn't seem to bother his mouth. He found a great big one and it jumped into a really deep cow print. He dived in and thought he had it for sure. The frog came blasting out nearly taking Buzz head off. Buzz looked around with a stunned look like what hit me. He's ok though.

smartest`

I've decided Elena is smarter than me. When I'm catching her she knows exactly how much ground I can cover. If she can't get by she doesn't even try and catches easily. On my side I see the distance. Even though never in my life could I ever get over quick enough something in my brain says maybe suddenly I'm faster than ever before. Since I'm not faster it never works. But I try all the time and never learn.I've been told Rory is just like me. If that's true so are Leilani and Siete. After seeing Siete getting her feet done I was thinking that's just hoe Rory was at that age. They must have got it from their father because Cassie is not at all like that. Cassie is an overachiever. she's always at the gate when I come to get a horse and she's always saying pick me, please pick me. She also can get way more excited than the others and has to be held back for he own good.

Siete

I forgot to say that Siete had her feet done for the first time and did very well. She got better with each foot. If she had 6 or 7 feet she might have gotten to be almost perfect. When Barrie got here she walked over and looked at him. When he opened the door she didn't run away, she stuck her head inside. I thought she was either going in or would get cut banging her head on the roof. She didn't do either and watched carefully while the horses got their feet done. She is curious and not scared. A nice temperament.

feet

Did horse feet today. I knew Elena was going to be a tough catch and she didn't disappoint. I took some feed out and she and Diego came right up to eat. Only Elena wouldn't even let me put a rope on her neck. I haltered Diego an d walked toward home. Elena sort of followed. I had trouble getting her over the electric fence. I circled way back around but by the time I got away she walked out on her own. Now she was totally out of any confinement and that had me a little concerned. I put Diego in with the other horses and after some running around Elena went in. She immediately took off running taking the other horses with her. Eventually I somewhat cornered her because the other horses said it's hot we're not running anymore. Elena and I understand perfectly what it takes to catch her. She knows I'll put my body on front of hers so she would have to run over me to get by. She also knows exactly how fast I can get to that spot. We worked for quite awhile until I had her where the only was she could get away was by running over me. Then she gave up and caught easily. In the running around Rory messed up his cut a little but I don't think it's serious.

bearing

Had a bearing go out so I unhooked and went home to get the pickup. The 3 dogs got in with me and we went to Milburger. Went back to the field and I let the pickup running with the door open and the pickup running. It was hot and I thought the dogs might want to sit in the air conditioning. A little while later I saw Claire and Lucy sitting in the pickup and Buzz was way across the field quartering like crazy. Eventually he came back. Also Tami's horse Bell is making a bag. Tami is horrified but I haven't heard how Bell feels.

Cass

Got Cass out today for Paula. Paula doesn't really like to ride with Siete buzzing around but there's not much we can do. Paula wanted to change shoes so I took Cass off across the field. This time Ben wouldn't go. The 2 dogs and Siete did. Siete kept following the dogs without looking to see where Cass and I were. I yelled at her a couple of times because I know when she looked up she would think she was lost. Eventually all of us made it back.
