mowing

I went out to mow this afternoon. It was getting hot. I left the dogs inside but the door open. Buzz followed me out. I thought when I started he would go back in the house. I looked over and he was laying in the middle of the driveway in the sun with his little tongue hanging out. I had to stop and take him back in the house. He's fine now.

mud

Went to Lucas today to see if cows blew away. Took the atv and it was a good thing it was wet and muddy. We parked just off the highway. I gad Buzzie and Claire. It was going to take forever to get anywhere with Buzz on the ground so I picked him up and gave him a ride. He wasn't too keen on riding but stayed on. We got to the pasture and he got off while I opened the gate. He was better about riding this time. When we went through the cows he became a very good rider. We stopped at the windmill and looked around awhile. Both dogs were soaked by now. Buzz didn't know if he wanted back on but once on he was okay. He definitely didn't want off around the cows. I think he was concerned about getting eaten. I had a spare sweatshirt in the pickup. On the way home Buzzie dried off on the sweatshirt then moved to the seat and slept all the way.

Buzz

Yesterday I noticed a heifer was out so I went home to get Paula. The dogs all jumped in with us. The heifer was by the corner so I let Paula and the dogs out by the cattle guard to open the gate. The heifer wouldn't even think about moving in front of the pickup so I walked her up. When I got the I saw the 3 horses playing with Paula. Sammy wanted petted and the boys were bouncing. I could see Buzzie hiding in the weeds by the windmill. The cow went right in and Buzzie came to see me. The boys saw him and took off after him. Buzzie took off as fast as he could. He was flying. The boys were bouncing and kicking so that slowed them down. Buzz went over the cattleguard and I don't think he even touched it. He waited for us on the other side. We walked back to the pickup and I told the dogs we would get a drink at the culvert. Except Buzzie wouldn't go in. Finally Paula had to wade in with him. Buzz wasn't upset, he just never thought of walking into the water.

oops

Had a little problem this morning. When I was watering the geese Buzzie pushed in and took off with a goose. Now we're down to 2. He would have been proud of himself if I hadn't yelled at him. The round pen is about done. I just need to get my leveler finished so I can put the fence up.

Honk

Honk has been alone for awhile since Peep went away. I've felt sorry for him and let him peck me on the leg. I think it makes him feel better. Tami decided there shouldn't be a Honk without a Peep so today she got me 3 young geese. She even got some wood chips and some food. They're out in the old dog pen/goose pen and seem right at home. It's warm enough they should get along just fine. I think there are 2 kinds. One is yellow and the other 2 are brownish. Buzz is fascinated with them. Honk hasn't figured out that he has company.

new arrival

At 11:37 the first foot came out. After much grunting and flopping the rest came at 11:54. It's a girl and probably is a sorrel but it's a little hard to tell since it's all still wet. Checked Cass about 10:30 and went to bed. Started thinking about how wet it is so we went out and put hay in the north part of the barn where she could be by herself. Good thing since she did lots of flopping. When we got out there a big bubble was hanging out so it was time. Paula bugged me endlessly that I should help her by pulling on the baby. I suggested she come inside and check the internet about what to do. As soon as she left Cass squirted it right out and I pulled the stuff off her nose and called Paula to come back. Off to bed now. I'm a little pumped so I hope I can sleep.

close

Cass is getting really close. When we got home last night we checked her and she had actual milk. I checked her during the night but she wasn't doing anything. Tami thought she would have her red roan filly within 24- 48 hours. This morning her bag is huge and she has a stream of milk like a cow. Cass that is. I'm going out to bother her shortly.
It's really no bother for Cass. She loves the attention. I'm charging my phone right now so I can send pictures.
