mud

This week the sale wasn't frozen, it was muddy. When we took the saddles off we got sticks to scrape the mud off of the saddles. Even today the horses still have mud on the legs and tummies. Everyone says Claire is getting better. I hope so. She can't really say. One night Lucy heard 2 cats and jumped off the bed at full speed. She plowed into Claire who bit her hard. I jumped out of bed to see if Claire was alright. Lucy was wanting to be comforted because she's been bit but by now she was getting yelled at for running into Claire. Not the best sleeping night.

hair

Claire's hair is starting to grow. It sort of looks like salt and pepper. Although Claire looks ok her breathing at night bothers me. She likes to sleep with her nose in my ear and to me her breathing sounds rough. I've been forced to wake Paula up the last 2 nights to make sure the breathing was ok. Yes I've been asked if Paula was awake when I asked. It doesn't make any difference. To answer my questions she has to be awake anyway. So it shouldn't matter if she was asleep. Lucy sleeps much quieter. It's still 2 weeks until Claire can be a d0g again.

not working

The blog hasn't been working lately. For some reason it hasn't been coming up. Claire seems to be feeling lots better. Monday Tami thought she was moving lots better. She also made me hold her when she left. The sale was really sloppy. it continues to amaze me how well horses go through slop. We've had a foot of mud, they hated that, frozen mud, also hated, and snow which they were ok with. They went over all of them just fine, though.

tomorrow

Claire gets her stitches out tomorrow. She's ok but I'm a little nervous. Last night she was sleeping with her nose in my ear and I thought she sounded louder than normal. I could hardly hear Lucy at all. She's sleeping really good right now.

update

Claire seems to be getting better. She's going to get her stitches out Thursday. Her stomach is still sore but I guess it will be for a long time. We had a sale as usual Monday. Except that it was freezing cold, about 20. The footing was terrible due to all the frozen cow prints. People were so covered up it was hard to recognize anybody. 9 year old Cole was out of school and showed up but I had to ask him if that was who he was, all I saw were his eyes. The horses weren't thrilled to be there. Leilani didn't want to go at all. She made it so difficult that at one point we were both sweating. I didn't want to ride Cass because of her feet but was pretty exhausted when we were done. We took some tea out, they give you styrofoam cups. It didn't matter because it was frozen solid before anyone could get a drink. I tried to break the ice with a horseshoe but it was too solid.

ok

Claire seems to be doing ok. She's got her own doggy pain pills. She takes them very well. We put them in some dogfood and she has them down fast. Lucy is extremely interested in the process. Somehow she's managed to get a bite or 2 of dogfood. Claire's stomach still hurts. Sometimes when she gets off the bed or a chair she squeaks herself. Overall I think she has excellent pain tolerance. This has been tough on Lucy. She doesn't know what to do with herself. She's actually tried to play with Paul.

home

We got Claire today. She must be glad to be home, she immediately went to the bathroom. She was a big hit K-State. Everybody stopped to say hi and pet her. She's to be kept quiet for 4 weeks. So far it's easy, anyone getting into her space gets growled at. I don't think she was sleeping too good. All evening she's been sleeping either on our bed or the couch. I don't think she was totally comfortable on the way home. She would lay on my lap and then try Ray's. Her stomach probably is a little sore.

well

We've had a little action here and I've been waiting to see how things turned out. Saturday there was a special cow sale. Tami came out that afternoon. She was driving slowly through the yard as the dogs were running all over. Rana said somebody tripped and all 3 disappeared under the pickup. Lucy came shooting out. She was muddy but that was all. Claire came out limping and Jesse couldn't get up. Paula and Rana took Jesse and Claire to Dr. Dave's. Sunday morning he thought they were getting better. Monday I told Paula just leave me a voice mail. When I got it they were on the way to K-State. Claire had a ruptured diaphragm. She had surgery immediately. They call twice a day and this morning she thought Claire would go home tomorrow. She hasn't called this evening butI'm really hoping. Jesse had so many injuries and was in so much pain there wasn't much we could do for him.
