Planting is getting off to a slow start. We've got 3 cows and calves at home and about the same time I started planting they started getting out. They're going through the electric fence. I've chased them back several times. Today Randy stopped by and said they were out. I stopped planting and got the fence on, it's really hot. This evening I saw them out again. I chased them into the corral and locked them in. I think they realized they were in timeout, they didn't look happy. Beth's trip to Hutchinson was inconclusive. So she had a 5 hour test at Great Bend today. They won't know until later how that test comes out.

field
Lucy isn't getting any better with the fieldwork. this could get old before I get done. I called Paula tonight to get me and nobody was home. Finally I called Ray and Paula was there. They were taking Beth's stitches out. It was going only fair. They didn't have the right equipment and Beth doesn't have my pain tolerance. When I got home I was walking out to feed the horses. I said something to the dogs and immediately all the horses were at the fence. I don't know where they were but they were waiting and when the heard my voice they came running.

goats
It sounds like we're going to get rid of our pygmy goats. Tami told Maggie we had a couple and Maggie wants them. I told M aggie they're hers but I also told her if they didn't work out I'd take them back. If she didn't want to come out here to get them I told her I would drop them off at Rana's and she could get them whenever she had time. Jose thought they'd feed 10 people. I said surely not but he said there's more meat on them than a person would think. Beth went to half a day of school today. She'll be be out of pe for 2 weeks and volleyball for 3 weeks. Since that's half the volleyball season that's about it for volleyball. I was in the field today, actually just the afternoon and Lucy is all over us. Paula said I may have to take her on the tractor tomorrow. Maybe Paul yelled at her.

leilani
Leilani had a good day today. She was losing a little zip toward toward the end of the sale but she still wanted to go. She really wanted to bite so the last group had about 25 calves and I let her go. She was chasing and biting at full speed. The yard foreman was on his phone, he saw us coming and dived over the fence. The guy with the gate squared up. The calves hit him and the gate and blasted in.I asked him if he saw her biting. He didn't he was too busy hanging on. Leolani is having a lot of fun at the sale.Beth is getting better. The last I heard Ray wanted her to go a half day tomorrow. She'll get her stitches out Thursday. That's the same day Taylor goes to Hutchinson to see if she's diabetic. Maggie, who took 3 cats, now is interested in the pygmy goats. So is Jose. Jose wants to have them over for dinner. Actually he wants them for dinner.

COWS
Checked cows this morning. They've finally got a little rain and finally is looking a little livable. At least there's a little green. We got home and just got done eating when Ray called and said Beth was getting her appendix out. Paula told me to get there about 3 so I got a few things done and went in. As usual the hospital was hurry up and wait so they were just starting on Beth. But it didn't take too long. I waited untill she woke up and got moved to a room. As soon as she got the she looked around and fell asleep. I'm trying to ride Leilani every night so since Beth was ok I went home. Leilani had a really good night. I don't think she's arguing with me near as much as she has in the past.

juan
Somehow Juan got himself clean. I never saw him do anything. I think it just fell off from playing. There's a little box in the living room the cats have been demolishing. Juan and Jose have been attacking it and themselves for a long time. I think it has something to do with it being rainy today, This doesn't look good for winter. I've been giving Elena treats to help catch her and now Cassie is on to us. Cassie knows what pocket I've got them in. This doesn't really helpl with Elena. I try to sneak around but you don't get a body like Cassie's by being fooled. Stripe has eating problems. She wants to eat your fingers with the treat. Today Cassie thought Stripe was too close. Cassie threw her back end into the air, twistimg away from me and toward Stripe. When they were butt to butt Cassie and Stripe bounced off kicking at each other.

wind
It was really blowing today. When I saddled Leilani this evening the dogs ran a goat between Leilani's feet. If Leilani would have kicked it might not ever have come down.Leilani did pretty good. She didn't really like the wind but then neither did I and you didn't see me making a fuss so she didn't either. Tami says she's trying to give me the finger. I think I can work through it because this is Leilani and I think she wants to do good. After we got done I gave her some horse treats. I think I had too many. She got all of them in her mouth but couldn't hold them. When she chewed they came spilling out. I had to pick up wet slimy chunks and give them back to her. If I don't pick them up fast enough Claire will eat them. Juan got into something. It's sort of like grease but stickier. He's tried to get it off but not very hard. It's all over his head and neck.

tonight
Lucy was growling in the kitchen. It went on for a long time. finally I went out and looked. She was between Master and Madeline. I told her good luck she was on her own. That sort of broke them up anyway.Weber's bull got into the heifers in the Ehly pasture. Roy said he was jumping the cattleguard. They got him back but a couple days later he was with the cows in the Meiers pasture. Both times he called when I wasn't home and Paula talked to him. I told her she should have asked him about the bull breeding traits since he's doing so much breeding. The pastures aren't even that close. The only was the bulll is finding them is by traveling cross country.

leilani
Leilani had a good sale day. She's been having trouble turning left so today I jumped on her the moment she slowed. She did lefts all day and did them pretty well. I also had
Cassie and Elena with me but I never got on either. It was a small sale and I weanted Leilani to get her work in. I've got a couple of birthday calenders. Like the ones grandma used to get. If some body wants one they can have it. Tonight Paul growled a Juan for some reason. I don't know why since he never bothers them. Lucy went tearing over and got in Paul's face. She didn't want anything to happen to her kitten.

wind
We were going to go out to Dighton and ride today but it was too windy. By this evening it had really calmed down. Ray came over and we went down the road. Ray rode Leilani and it we pretty well. We had one glitch. We started to trot and Leilani went in the ditch. I don't know why. And she didn't want to come out very bad. I wasn't sure what to do. Ray fooled with her. She turned her a little and kept persisting and finally Leilani came out. Leilani was wanting to turn left so I put Cassie on her left. For some reason that was the end of the problem. We went on for awhile and then went back. Nothing else happened. Leilani did everything Ray asked and was stopping from her body position.

rain
I was getting Leilani this evening and all the horses were bouncing. Not so much Leilani, though. Stripe bugged me so much I finally gave her an elbow to the nose. I was walking Leilani to the gate when I heard thunder. Nothing looked close so I thought about it for awhile. There was more thunder and I let Leilani loose. I thought I'd just play with the horses for a little while. I was petting Elena and Rory came over. I still had the halter rope in one hand and I laid it on Elena's back. She ran away. I've now discovererd what bothers her is the halter rope. Other that that she catches easily. On the way in it started sprinkling and by the time we(dogs and me) got to the house it was pouring. The rain was so warm it wasn't worth running. However Lucy was hiding in the shed waiting for me.

leilani
Leilani had good and bad moments at the sale so I took her out tonight to see how she worked. Yesterday we had trouble, again, with left turns. I started tonight with a left and she did it well. Paula thought that was great. The problem is after about 50 lefts. I didn't do that many tonight and she did all of them. I wanted it to be a good experience. We went around the big driveway and trotted down the road and in the driveway. We then went up the front driveway. Leilani had to stop at the propane tanks. After she decided they wouldn't attack us we went on. If Julia is available Sunday we're going out to Dighton Sunday for a lesson. I need to work out this left turn problem.

cool and wet
They had 900 geese at Saturday's sale. 500 were still there. they were losing so many feathers it was like a snowfall. I don't think they ever shut up. I could hear the guineas over them but they aren't in a pen. They just wander around the sale and get offended when someone gets too close. The horses were all bouncing off the walls, even Cassie. We had 3 theories, the weather, or the Saturday goat sale always seems to get things excited, or the geese and all there feathers. Cassie stilll doesn't like Elena but she doesn't chase her. Cassie just stares and Rory chases her. I'm very disappointed with Rory for being such a momma's boy. I am absolutely certain that Cassie is telling him to do it.

horses
I left Elena locked up all night. I didn't want to chase horses in the morning. I let her out this morning and they all took off. Fortunately they stopped. Leilani and Stripe sort of made friends. Cass and Rory aren't. Cassie took all the horses into the pig shed. Anytime Elena got too close Cass made that noise like she's going to kick and Rory chased Elena off. I told Rory he was a momma's boy. Leilani and Stripe walked around with Elena but Rory and Cass stayed in the shed. I had to leave and was gone quite awhile. When I got back they were still in the shed. I went to get Cass, she was probably starving. They left the shed and everyone went to the bale. I guess Cass is ok with horses at the sale but not in her living room. This evening she was still having Rory do her dirty work.

elena
Got a new horse today, Elena. I traded Jatim off. Jatim just wasn't working and wasn't going to work. George brought Elena over. He said he hadn't warmed her up, just loaded her. We saddled her, the dogs were all over and the horses were running around. Elena's eyes were big as saucers. George said get on. I was mixed but I did. I went down the driveway, when I wanted to stop she only sort of stopped. I messed with the reins, backed her a little and made a few circles. I rode back to George and she stopped fine. George said she looked calmer and she did. I rode her for awhile and she got better all the time. We messed with her for awhile. George was here for 2 hours. I think Elena will work for those of you who are not the best riders and you know who you are.

today
Rana came out today and we rode down the road. Today Leilani was easy. Both of us, Leilani and me, had an easy time. When we got back we led the horses around for awhile with kids aboard. That's way harder then riding. After we got done Rana wanted to look for old license plates. Claire and Lucy were poking around. I saw them jump back and thought oh-oh. Skunk. They both got sprayed on the nose. Rana grabbed Remi and we got out of there. Ray and her kids were around so we got both dogs and bathed both of them. The dogs smell nice now. Paula was going to grill some hamburgers so somebody lit the grill and cooked since she doesn't get around too well.

sunday
Rory had an owie on his leg a lot like Leilani's. So I gave him penicillen for 3 days. If he was a cow or pig I would have just stuck it in. Being Rory I wanted to make it pleasant. We had some treats that lasted for the first 2 days. The next day we were at Walmart so I looked for treats. The closest thing I could find was rabbit and gerbil treats. He loved them. They're gone now. Ray and her girls came over this afternoon. Ray and I rode across the road. I'm starting to think Leilani doesn't like soft ground. She didn't cause problems but I could tell it was bothering her. She also didn't want to turn left. When we got back to the yard I worked on lefts for awhile. Then we led her girls around for awhile. We washed the horses. I got on Cassie bareback to show the latest thing I learned. If you wiggle around on Cassie's back it feels great to her. Like a huge itching thing.

late
Missed a few days. Tami came out Wednesday night to do Cassie's hooves. She left about 10 and I went tp bed. Last nightI got slowed down by the pigs and forgot. Tonight we had to take water up to Lucas for the cows. If we don't get the well fixed fast we'll be back tomorrow. For those of you getting pork I picked up the sausage and fresh pork today. One suggestion for the striped kittens name is Stripes like the zebra. Although it's a good name now I'm thinking of calling the donkey Stripes. It seems to fit her. Ideally I would give the striped kitten to Tami. Paula got a different knee brace and is now walking without crutches. Now when she sats Leilani told her something I have to ask her, Leilani the person or Leilani the horse?
