very hot

It got over 100 today. I'm not in the house much but I had to turn the air conditioner on for Paul. He appreciated it. Paul only goes out early mornings and late evenings and now it's getting way early and late. The kittens have discovered him. As in that he's no threat. He's ok with that.

sale

Bryce went with me to the sale today. It was hot. I took Jatim and Cassie. Jatim still has a few problems but she's still improving. They did some dirtwork on the alleys. When Jatim hit one we were both surprised. I'd spent all my presale work on going inside and hadn't been all over the sale. Before there was a big hole. It wasn't a problem because we knew it was there and she always hit it at the same place. On the way home we got ice cream at Wilson and then Cassie and Jatim got baths when we got home.

ducks/geese

The ducks/geese, we're not sure what they are, are still going. We put them inAndy's old pen. Whatever gets them hasn't yet. Their is still a big discussion about what they are. They still have baby feathers. Their heads look like Gene Hackman's haircut. They like kochia but their favorite are the leaves off of the locust trees. They won't eat any other leaves. The pen was full of stick tights so their baby feathers are full of sticktights. They call to us when we go out and seem to have bonded with Paula. She'll pick them up and hold them on her lap. They get calm and get sort of a dumb look that might mean they are contented.

cow

Every time a cow that looks like Jatim goes through the salebarn I say I want to buy her. Of course by that time they are sold. There aren't many roan shorthorns around, most of them are red or black. Steve called a couple weeks ago and said that where he was working there was a roan shorthorn. I drove up to look at it. It was similar. Some roan and a lot of white. It also had a calf. They were drop dead cute. I bought them and took them home. Been kind of busy but when you see pictures you'll agree about the cute. They've got a little corriente look. We heard Marvin died this morning.

alfalfa

I'm getting low on alfalfa so I called Marvin about a week ago. He said no problem but it would be a day or 2 which was ok. I had hoped to get it before everyone started cutting wheat but he didn't show up. I thought about calling him this morning but was in a rush so didn't. Ed came over and asked me if I had heard about Marvin. Of course I hadn't. He had a stroke on Monday, was sent to Wichita, was pronounced brain dead and they took him off the respirator. He'sstill alive but it doesn't look good. glad I didn't call. Got almost all the wheat off. Rana came out with the 3 kids. Good thing there won't be a tomorrow. Addie, Bryce and Remi rode forever. I'm not sure Rana wanted to stay so long but the kids wouldn't get off.

allergies

A few weeks ago I was talking to Steve, Jatim's first trainer, and I said it must be spring since Cassie was starting her allergy shots. So Steve starts telling me she doesn't need shots I just need to change her diet. I'm going huh? According to him any medical problem can be controlled by proper diet. This would include getting cured of cancer by starving the cancer cells. Well Cass is a horse and they all eat pretty much the same thing. I'm not totally sure how bad she was, it involved lots of scratching and itching, but she's really easy to give shots, and I'm not going to experiment at her expense. I told Steve ok and we went on.

catching up

Jatim was at Tami's for 5 or 6 weeks. not only does she do many more things, she's much more flexible and soft, she also acts homesick. I think she was perfectly happy with Tami but it's always good to be home. So now Jatim, who is not normally a cuddly horse, is now being very cuddly. For some reason she doesn't want anything to do with Sissy the donkey. At least they're not fighting. Leilani should be home in a few weeks. She has never seen Sissy. Hopefully it will go well. Cassie is glad to see Jatim and hopes for Leilani to get back soon. Cass has been doing all the work at the salebarn and is ready for a break. Rory is getting to be a really big boy. When he and Jatim side by side and you see them from behind they are so similar the only difference is Jatim's tail being a little longer. Talk about 2 muscular butts.
