claire

We were gone for a few days. when we got back we could tell Claire bad gotten a little extra food somewhere. Her blood sugar was sky high. Paula gave her a little more insulin to get it down. It takes awhile for insulin to work which can be a week or more. Well it came down. At her 10:30 blood test it was 35. that's way low. It's a wonder she hadn't gone into shock. Paula gave her some honey on a cracker and we waited for 11:00. Also Buzzie got a cracker. At 11 her blood sugar was only up to 50 so it was more honey on a cracker. And another cracker for Buzzie. At 11:30 it was up to about 100 so we gave her a little more and went to bed. Buzzie got another cracker.

ice

Got a little cold this week so the pond froze over. The cows have an automatic waterer so it doesn't matter a lot. The dogs and I walk through the cows every morning and they like to go to the pond so we usually go. We got down there and I saw a cow had a newborn baby and it was stuck on the ice. The cow was very cranky about it. The ice wasn't too thick so I was concerned about falling through. There was no chance of drowning but I didn't want to have to walk home wet and muddy. So I laid down on the ice and slid as far as I dared, when the calf kicked I grabbed a foot and jerked it to me. We got off the ice and the cow became a major problem. I needed a stick but it wouldn't have mattered because it took both hands to get the calf up the bank. She brushed me once but I got the calf laying correctly. I walked home to get the ATV, that way if I had to do anything else I would have something to get behind.By the time I got back it was up and nursing, later I saw it laying in some hay by a feeder. Buzzie watched the whole thing about 50 feet away, he was too scared to move. The other 2 dogs felt I got myself into this, I could get myself out. Nice backup.

cats

We got the thing with Josanna/Lee sorted out. It's been cold this week and I noticed there were 4 black cats in the house. Well they're on their own. I don't know who the fourth one is and I guess I don't care. It's an older cat so there are a lot of possibilities. There's a gray cat that seems to be friends with Lee. They both are in good condition so I'm sure they were dumped. Wendy had problems making friends but they all like Lee.

Josanna

Since it got cold Josanna has been coming in the house. Actually not leaving the house. we'd seen her on the porch playing with Lucy but just recently came in. I told Paula if she stayed I was going to take her in for her shots, it'd been awhile because we couldn't catch her. Dr. Dave was pushing and prodding like he does and he said look at this. turns out I had a boy. Obviously not Josanna. Josanna would be 5, this cat is about 1 year old. I left her there, might as well get him fixed. Now we're looking for another name. I told them I'd have one by tomorrow so just call him anonymous.

cats

The latest kitten game is to follow me out when I feed horses and play. One of the blacks started playing with Hero's tail. It actually swung on his tail. Hero was eating and could care less. One wrong move and kitty would be flat but the horses aren't trying too hard to step on them.None of the cats went out tonight.I think they're fair weather cats.

leak

Had a water leak. I found it because I saw the dogs had muddy feet and there shouldn't have been any mud. It looked easy to dig out so I started Wednesday evening and of course it wasn't so I turned the water back on so the horses could have a drink. Thursday morning I got out early because I didn't want the horses without water for long. Siete came over to get a drink. When nothing came she hit it with her foot and tried again. I was about 20 feet away, outside the pen in the hole and she looked at me. She was telling me dad, the water's off. I couldn't turn it back on so she stood perfectly still with the waterer between her front legs and raised her head up high and stared at sky. I knew she was watching me since horses see very well to the side. When I turned it on the was there for her drink. This waterer doesn't make noise when there's water so I don't know how she knew it was on.

tyler

Friday Rana came out and we caught some cows. One of them had a big sore. She said she'd drain it so we chased it into the chute. The kittens came over to watch. Tyler wandered around through and under the cows.
Cows aren't too alert so I didn't think they noticed him. Then we went out to see the horses. The horses are alert. We have to watch Stripe because she will chase them. While we kept Stripe away Tyler wandered underneath Hero. Tyler got between Hero's front feet and rubbed on his hoof. Horses are very aware of where their feet are but I'm not sure they care. Especially if it's some cat. But Hero didn't move and Tyler went somewhere else. He looked very small by Hero's hoof.
